A Clermont family's cul-de-sac Halloween dance party, with a DJ, stage lights and sensory-friendly treats, returns to Hammock Pointe 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
For the 12th year running, a cul-de-sac in Clermont’s Hammock Pointe subdivision will turn into a dance floor on Halloween night.
Justin Underwood sets up a professional DJ rig, stage lighting and a sound system at the end of Fountain Coin Way, and families walk in from across the neighborhood to dance, trick-or-treat or just watch. This year’s party runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
His wife, Jeanette Underwood, said the night has grown well beyond the family’s own front yard.
“Every Halloween, Justin transforms our neighborhood cul-de-sac into a full Halloween dance party, complete with a professional DJ setup, lighting, and music that brings crowds of families through our neighborhood throughout the evening,” she said.
“What started as a fun Halloween tradition has turned into something our family looks forward to sharing with the community every year. We love watching kids, teenagers, parents, and neighbors come together to dance, celebrate, and simply enjoy being part of something fun.”
Built so everyone can join in
The Underwoods have five children, including a son with profound autism, and Jeanette Underwood said that shapes how the night is run. Nobody has to dance, and nobody has to trick-or-treat.
“Making Halloween welcoming to everyone is especially important to us,” she said. “Whether families want to trick-or-treat, teenagers and parents hang out and dance, little ones collect sensory-friendly alternatives, dance, or just take in the atmosphere, everyone is welcome to participate in their own way.”
Sensory-friendly alternatives to candy are handed out alongside the usual treats, she said.

The fire crew stops by
Justin Underwood is a fire-medic for Lake County, and his family says the fire department crew comes by to support him for part of the evening.
