Clermont trash goes out by 7 a.m. on pickup day. Thanksgiving week pickups shift a day, to Friday and Saturday. Sanitation: 352-241-0178.

Last checked Oct. 8, 2026. Facts on this page come from the City of Clermont Sanitation page, its Garbage and Recycling page, the sanitation holiday schedule and the city’s printed guides, linked below.

The City of Clermont’s Sanitation Division, part of the Public Services Department, picks up garbage, recycling, yard waste, electronics and bulk items for nearly 16,000 homes and businesses, the city says. Trucks are automated: an arm grabs each green cart, so where and how you set it out matters. Everything goes to the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day.

Who to call

  • Sanitation, missed pickup, collection day: Public Services, 352-241-0178 (en español, el mismo número), 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays
  • Extra cart or a change of cart size: Utility Billing, 352-241-7320
  • Water or sewer emergency after hours: 352-241-0178, option 3
  • Not a city customer, or hazardous waste questions: Lake County Solid Waste, 352-343-3776

Is the city your trash hauler?

Not every Clermont mailing address is inside the city limits. City customers have a green trash cart with a green lid and a white City of Clermont logo, and a green recycling cart with a yellow lid. If your carts are not green, you are likely a Lake County customer, the city says; call the county at 352-343-3776 for its schedule.

The city does not post a pickup-day lookup online. Call Public Services at 352-241-0178 to confirm your day.

Holiday schedule for the rest of 2026

Only three holidays move pickups this year. Other holidays do not change collection days.

Holiday Your usual day Pickup moves to
Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 26 Friday, Nov. 27
Day after Thanksgiving Friday, Nov. 27 Saturday, Nov. 28
Christmas Friday, Dec. 25 Saturday, Dec. 26

The schedule applies to the City of Clermont only; Lake County may run a different one. The city has not yet posted its 2027 holiday dates.

Setting out the garbage cart

  • Household trash goes in the city-issued green cart only. Extra bags and other cans beside the cart are not collected.
  • Turn the handle toward your house so the truck’s arm can grab the cart.
  • Keep the cart 4 feet from mailboxes, cars, poles and signs, and clear of low wires and branches.
  • Carts come in 35-, 65- and 95-gallon sizes. A second cart costs extra each month; call Utility Billing at 352-241-7320. What the monthly charge covers is in the city’s guide to sanitation services (PDF).

What goes in the recycling cart

From the city’s guide to recycling (PDF):

  • Paper: newspapers, glossy magazines, phone books, white and colored paper.
  • Cardboard: boxes of all kinds, including pizza, cereal and moving boxes. Flatten them or cut them to fit; do not force them in.
  • Cans: aluminum and steel food cans, rinsed.
  • Glass: clear, green and brown food and drink bottles and jars, with lids and neck rings off.
  • Plastic: bottles with a neck numbered 1 to 7, rinsed with lids off.
  • Household batteries: in a zip-top bag on top of the cart lid.

Keep out plastic bags and wrap, foam, light bulbs, drinking glasses, ceramics, car batteries and automotive containers.

Yard waste

Yard waste goes out by 7 a.m. on your normal trash day and is picked up by a separate truck.

  • Small amounts can go in the green cart.
  • Cut limbs to 4 feet or shorter and no more than 6 inches across. Bigger limbs stay with the property owner.
  • Bag leaves and clippings, 50 pounds or less a bag and no more than 12 bags a pickup.
  • Stack it on the other side of the driveway from your garbage cart, 4 feet from mailboxes and water meters.
  • Landscapers and tree services must haul away their own debris. Removing a tree needs a city permit; see building permits and zoning.

Details are in the city’s yard waste requirements (PDF).

Bulk items and electronics

The monthly residential charge covers one bulk pickup of up to 3 cubic yards a week, about a pile 3 feet long, wide and tall. Bigger piles, up to 10 cubic yards, are picked up for an extra fee listed in the city’s sanitation guide; the city will not collect more than 10.

  • Bulk: grills, refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters, mattresses and furniture.
  • Carpet and pad: rolled in bundles no longer than 4 feet.
  • Electronics: TVs, computers and stereos, unboxed at the curb, glass kept intact.

Installers must remove what they replace.

Hazardous waste and construction debris

Paint, thinners, cooking and motor oil, tires, rechargeable batteries, antifreeze, pool chemicals, propane tanks and pesticides are never collected at the curb. Lake County takes them at:

  • Log House Road Transfer Station, 10435 Log House Road, Clermont, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays, 352-394-5137. No construction material.
  • Central Facilities Landfill, 13130 County Landfill Road, Tavares, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 352-343-3776. This site also takes drywall, tile, sinks, countertops and other construction waste.

What this means for you

  • Thursday and Friday customers in Thanksgiving week, and Friday customers in Christmas week, set out a day later than usual.
  • Big yard cleanups go out in bags and 4-foot bundles, on the far side of the driveway.
  • Check your cart color before calling: green means the city, anything else means the county.
